Chelsea to step away from key transfer strategy element under new regime (reliability: 4 stars)

Chelsea have been dead set on signing players aged 25 years old or younger in the last three transfer windows.

However, according to Simon Phillips, this will not be the case in the summer as the Blues will look to strengthen the team core with more experience.

"As plans ramp up for the summer transfer window, I understand that the ‘U25 rule’ that Chelsea had in place will now be scrapped going forward," wrote Phillips in his Substack column.

Lack of experienced players in the squad has often been cited as a reason for the Blues' incosistency this season.

This summer, Chelsea are expected part ways with Thiago Silva, which would leave Raheem Sterling the oldest first-team regular at the age of 29.
