'He’s capable of scoring 25-35 goals': Ten Hag explains reasons why Rashford's form has significantly dropped

Erik ten Hag has acknowledged that Marcus Rashford’s form has nose-dived in the 2023/24 season after he scored 30 goals for Man United last season.

Speaking about this ahead of the Burnley game, the gaffer explained: “That is an interesting question. He knows, I know. It has to do with himself but also to do of course with the team. I already said our attacking game has improved a lot after the winter.

“But before winter our attacking game was not good enough. I think it's always the two factors I mentioned; it's the team and it's himself. They are of course related to each other.

“First of all I think Marcus Rashford is capable every season of scoring 25 to 35 goals. He has the assets to do that. I am 100 per cent confident of this. When he is not doing the right stuff out of possession I will confront him with this. I will give arguments and also we use data.”

Ten Hag also confirmed that Rashford is set to miss the game against Burnley due to an injury he suffered in the FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City.

The Englishman recently hit out at the kind of criticism he’s received from fans this season, insisting that “enough is enough”. Rashford has only scored eight goals and provided five assists in 40 appearances so far this season.
