Former Bayern president Uli Hoeness has confirmed his club's interest in appointing Xabi Alonso as a head coach after the end of the season.
"He has proven that he can be a coach for the really big teams," Hoeness said, as quoted by Florian Plettenberg.
"It will be much more difficult because clubs like Liverpool, Real Madrid, Leverkusen and also FC Bayern are working on it. There's hardly a coach who is suitable and is currently free."
Plettenberg adds that the talks between Bayern and Alonso have already taken place and there has been 'no rejection from Alonso yet'.
It's hilarious that Hoeness' statement comes after Bayern's sporting director tried to downplay his club's links to the current Bayer head coach.
The Spaniard is understood to be Liverpool's main option to succeed Jurgen Klopp after the end of the season.
