Barca miss out NEW Club World Cup slot after defeat to PSG: 11 teams from Europe qualify

Following their defeat to PSG, Barcelona have failed to qualify for the revamped 32-team Club World Cup taking place in 2025.

This is due to Barca's poor UEFA Champions League club ranking across the last four seasons. Barca needed to, at least, make the semi-finals to stand a chance of qualification.

Meanwhile, Barca's elimination in the quarter-finals allowed Atletico Madrid to qualify as they have a better ranking in Europe than Barca.

By missing out on qualification, Barca have surrendered at least €50m which is the minimum any participating club is expected to receive. FIFA are budgeting around €2bn for the tournament with the winner set to win over €100m in prize money alone.

As it stands, 11 teams from Europe have qualified for the Club World Cup. They are:

Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Bayern, Borussia Dortmund, Inter, Juventus, PSG, Benfica and Porto.

Like Barca, Arsenal must beat Bayern in the Champions League quarter-final to stand a chance of qualifying for the Club World Cup. If they fail to do that RB Salzburg will go through.
