Will Chelsea qualify for Europe by finishing eighth? Supercomputer answers

This season, the Premier League has a chance to send five teams to the Champions League, increasing the number of their teams in all European competitions to eight.

To achieve that, the Premier League clubs need to finish in the top two of the leagues that perform the best in Europe in 2023/24.

However, according to Opta Analyst and their supercomputer, this is highly unlikely.

Italy have already secured a top-two finish, while Germany are all but certain to follow.

England who have only one team left in the European competitions (Aston Villa in the Conference League) have only a 1.1% chance to usurp the Germans.

For Chelsea, it means that they are unlikely to qualify for the European competitions if they finish eighth.

Currently, the Blues sit in ninth, a point behind West Ham, and three points behind Man United and Newcastle United.

Chelsea also have games in hand, so they might well finish above eighth and qualify for Europe. An alternative route is winning the FA Cup which would give them a place in the Europa League.
