Anthony Taylor demoted from Premier League to Championship - but there's a catch

There's no active referee Chelsea fans dislike more than Anthony Taylor, the man behind plenty of mistakes in the Blues' game.

So, it may come as a vindication for them to learn that Taylor has been demoted to the Championship.

According to Express & Star, the referee has been sanctioned for wrongly awarding a penalty to Newcastle in their 2-2 draw against Wolves.

However, that joy might be short-lived. It turns out that Taylor will only be demoted to the Championship for one weekend.

As a FIFA-listed referee, he's expected to be back in the Premier League sooner rather than later - but at least, it's a strong message to him to up his game before facing more serious sanctions.
