'I hope it won't happen again': Valverde reveals problem he had ahead of Man City penalty shoot-out

"That night [after the Man City win], I went to bed with the regret of having been able to leave that mark on Real Madrid, of going to the semi-finals with a goal of mine, especially because I'm good at penalties," Federico Valverde has told the media.

"But I like to qualify in any way, and if another teammate did it, that's fine. But I had a bitter taste, yes. Sometimes you have to put your ego and pride aside and recognise that you are very tired and tell the coaching staff that you are not prepared to take a shot. That fatigue played a trick on me and I told the coaching staff that in the future, I would love to not pass on the opportunity."

It was indeed quite surprising that Fede didn't take a shot in the shoot-out – and it was Antonio Rudiger to secure Real Madrid's win.

Let's hope the Whites won't need to resort to penalties from now on. Better please us with one of your trademark bangers, Fede!
