'I had two options': Bernardo Silva explains going for panenka in Real Madrid penalty shoot-out

"Basically, I had two options, I had in my mind one of the sides or the middle," Bernardo Silva has said, explaining his decision to attempt a panenka penalty against Real Madrid.

"I wanted to be the second or the third penalty to see the reaction from the keeper in the first penalties. And he [Lunin] moved early, that's why I thought middle was good because in moments of pressure the keepers 99 per cent of the time move, but he chose not to," the Portuguese added.

At the end of the day, that was a really poor-executed effort that was easily saved by Andriy Lunin. After the game, the Ukrainian revealed he had known one of the opposition players would go for such a shot – and predicted Bernardo Silva to be the one.

In such stressful moments, trying to score a panenka is something only players like Zinedine Zidane or Karim Benzema can do!
