But last season, it caused no small stir when Carlo Ancelotti fielded a Real Madrid XI that featured only one homegrown player and no Spanish player. The Italian gaffer had to explain it away saying it was a mere coincidence.
If Real Madrid are made to field a team featuring only Castilla Academy graduates, they would still have leaders in every department but it will be a weakened team compared to the one Madridistas have come to cheer.
Here's what that team will look like:
Gonzalez; Fran, Nacho, Carvajal, Vazquez; Martin, Angel, Nico Paz, Valverde; Alvaro, Joselu.
The squad features three players who have not made an appearance with Ancelotti's team this season, like Fran Gonzalez in goal, Mario Martin and Manu Angel who hasn't even been called up to the first team despite his heroics in Castilla.
Alvaro Rodriguez for one has only played three minutes in his two appearances this season.
