Erik ten Hag: 'Man United not in position to compete for Premier League title next season. That's a fact'

Erik ten Hag has dismissed any hope that Man United can compete for the Premier League title or even the second place next season.

Ahead of the Burnley match, he said: "This year we stand still but I think when everyone is available definitely we are competing for the top four. I’m confident of that.

"Although I have to say there are some teams, It is not anymore just a two-horse or three-horse race in the Premier League, there is Villa, there is Spurs, there is Newcastle.

"So many good teams - six or seven teams who all can compete. Chelsea - don’t forget them. They are all competing for the top four and we are one of them but we are not in this moment in the position to compete for number one or number two. That is fact. But I think we can come closer if we have a good [transfer] window."

Man United are struggling in their objective to qualify for the 2024/25 Champions League, as they currently sit in sixth place - 13 points behind fourth-place Aston Villa.

Any loss or draw in their last five games will automatically end the Red Devils' possibility to qualify for the Champions League next season. But it seems like going by Ten Hag's comments, he's realistically looking at another top-4 race than competing for the Premier League title next season.
