Revealed: how long Man United might have to wait for Jason Wilcox if Southampton refuse release

Man United are trying their best to appoint Jason Wilcox as their new technical director before the 2023/24 season is over.

The ex-Man City academy director has reportedly resigned from his role as Southampton’s director of football as a way to push his way out of the club.

However, many reports claim that Southampton are just not willing to let him leave immediately to Old Trafford. Even after Man United offered a fee to ‘sign him’ immediately, the Championship club are just not budging.

It has now been revealed that Wilcox actually faces a major notice period which he might need to serve after resigning at Southampton.

The Englishman’s contract sees him need to serve a 12-month notice period, meaning that he might not be allowed to join Man United before 2025.

The Red Devils will hope that isn’t the case and they can convince Southampton to accept the money they’re offering and let Wilcox go freely before the summer window.

Man United envision Wilcox to remain a key part of their recruitment team after he joins, having worked with Omar Berrada at Man City in the past.
