Udinese show absolute respect agreeing to abandon the match after Evan Ndicka's collapse on the pitch

Roma's Serie A match against Udinese had to be called off due to a medical emergency. Roma defender Evan Ndicka collapsed on the field during the 70th minute of the game.

The match was promptly suspended after this alarming incident. Reports from Sky Italia indicate that Ndicka was conscious when he was stretchered off the field.

Referee Luca Pairetto, in consultation with both team managers, made the tough call to abandon the match about 10 minutes after the incident occurred. At the time of the suspension, the score was tied at 1-1. Ndicka was immediately taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

The footballer gave a reassuring thumbs-up as he was carried off on a stretcher.

In a statement, Roma said: 'The player is conscious and has been taken to hospital for further checks. Forza Evan, we are all with you!'

Sky Italia reported that Roma coach De Rossi requested referee Pairetto to pause the game while he checked on Ndicka, who remained down due to a possible blow to the ribs.

After that De Rossi returned to the pitch and discussed with his players whether to continue the match. Later, he spoke with Pairetto and Udinese's coach Cioffi, who both showed understanding as they embraced.

Udinese's captain Pereyra and his teammates joined De Rossi, who explained the situation.

Pairetto then signalled the game's abandonment.

The crowd in Udine applauded the players, and Roma, along with Udinese, acknowledged their supporters.
