3 clubs set to sue Everton for over £300m in damages after FFP breaches

Everton have been hit with a 10-point deduction in the Premier League, a punishment that puts them in the relegation zone, albeit just two points away from safety. However, the Toffees travails do not end there.

Burnley, Leeds United and Leicester City have confirmed their intention to sue Everton for a total of £300m in damages.

Why these clubs precisely? Because Leeds and Leicester were relegated last season, a battle they lost to Everton by the skin of their teeth. That's funny because Leeds would have needed another club to be slapped with a points deduction to stay up. As for Burnley, they had been relegated a season before, also in a battle against Everton.

Why £300m precisely? Because a club in the Premier League lose out on around £100m by being relegated. Three clubs losing this money triples the amount.

According to Daily Mail, the three clubs in question feel that had a points deduction been given much earlier, they would have survived at the expense of Everton. The report also suggests that a potential legal battle could scare away the prospective new owners 777 Partners. The American company agreed to take over the majority stake but have not finalised their approval.
