“City gave us what we expected, but I am buzzing – so happy. You have to have the patience against them, you have to have mini games within the game against them like the manager said to us before.

“To win today, my first for the club.I feel I've grown a lot in the last three weeks. There's a lot of information to take in of what the manager wants. I'm eager to learn and keep improving.

“I'm sure we can achieve anything this season - we just need to remain focused.”

Rice has won the first trophy of his Arsenal career, and will take this as motivation to help the Gunners win more prominent silverware going forward.

Best player on the pitch for Arsenal on the day. In an unconventional left-back role, the Dutchman showed why the Gunners signed him. He kept Bernardo Silva really quiet and neutralized their threat through his side. Constantly came up with key tackles and blocks, while also great at moving the ball forward. Showed his importance that Arsenal conceded two minutes after he was taken off.

Relatively untested in the first half but proved his credentials in the second half. Unable to do much about Palmer’s strike, but made some excellent saves soon after to ensure things didn’t get worst. Then made a brilliant save to deny Rodri in the shoot out to help Arsenal win it

Saliba did a great job to neutralize the major threat of Erling Haaland, sticking close to him and giving him no room. Stopped him from getting any major chances and was proactive at the back, making four clearances and two tackles.

Trossard came on for Martinelli and proved why he should’ve started. Troubled City with his movement and did something which all the Arsenal players seemed to be scared off, taking a shot from distance that resulted in the goal. Scored his penalty too and proved to be a super-sub.

The Arsenal captain did really well to move the ball forward for his side and create some chances with his innovative passes. Got the better of the City midfielders multiple times and very comfortable against their pressing.

Rice played in a left centre-midfield role in which he often floated through the left-wing and helped the backline too. Moved the ball around well and won 3/3 ground duels, but unable to do anything that special.

Havertz was really clever with his movement and positioning in the first half, getting at the end of multiple chances. However, both his efforts were saved and he shut down in the second half – being unable to influence any attacking moves.

Probably the most underwhelming Arsenal attacker on the day. Failed to create anything or test the defenders with his pace. Sloppy with his final product and his set-pieces were especially frustrating.
