🥳ARSENAL WIN THEIR 17TH COMMUNITY SHIELD. They come out on top after an even game. City took the lead late in the game through a great goal, but Leandro Trossard scored a great equalizer in the 101th minute to force penalties. Arsenal were just better in the penalty shoot out, with Ramsdale making a key save and De Bruyne missing his - while all Arsenal players converted. Arsenal are 2023 Community Shield champions!

🤩VIEIRA SCORES AND ARSENAL WIN THE COMMUNITY SHIELD!!! GET IN!

😍RAMSDALE SAVES! He brilliantly denies Rodri by diving the right way. 3-1.

😍Saka scores! Calm finish from him. 3-1.

Bernardo Silva scores. Sends Ramsdale the wrong way to score. 2-1.

💪Trossard scores! He takes a cool penalty. 2-0.

🥳DE BRUYNE MISSES! He smashes his shot onto the frame of the goal. 1-0.

🙏Odegaard scores the first penalty. He makes no mistake at all, passing it onto the left side. 1-0.

💪Full-time: The last-minute equalizer means that the game will now be decided on penalty shootout!

😍90'+11': GOOOOOOALLLL! TROSSARD! 1-1! What drama! Saka takes a nice corner that is cleared away. He then passes it to Trossard, who takes a speculative effort that takes a deflection into the back of the net.

Mf9781 @Reddit: "To quote my father, the good are lucky. The very good are VERY lucky."

😐90'-90+6': A lengthy stoppage is forced because of a clash of heads between Partey and Walker. Both have to be bandaged up but look set to finish the game.

Zen_MasterX @Reddit: "Just put Partey’s head in Rice ffs."

83'-90': EIGHT minutes of added time is announced. Still time for Arsenal to salvage something here.

Hotbrownies14 @Reddit: "8 minutes to barely scramble a few passes together."

😐82'-83': BIG saves from Ramsdale! Alvarez bursts into the box and pays Foden through, but his effort is tipped away by Ramsdale. Soon after, a threatening corner forces Rammy to make another great save.

Improve-me-coder @Reddit: "Our defense can be a solid 10, minutes later it's a 5. I don't understand this, as this has been an issue for years now."

77'-82': Arteta is forced into an attacking change as Rice is replaced by Eddie Nketiah.

Yosu14_ :"Nketiahn banger incoming."

😓77': Goal. City score. Immediately after Timber goes off, City create a dangerous move through that wing and Palmer is again played in the box. He hits a perfect shot into the top corner to open the scoring.

Mrmore @Reddit: "Partey skinned. This has to be his last year."

🔥70'-75': Timber was unbreakable on the left today. He makes another key challenge to avert trouble and isn't allowing anything to go past him. Meanwhile, Arteta finally makes changes as Trossard comes on for Martinelli, while Tierney replaces Timber.

Therapy_lover @Reddit: "Tross gonna do something special I feel it."

💪65'-70': Big block from Timber! City create a dangerous move that ends up with playing Cole Palmer in the box, but his shot is deflected over by Timber.

HardCoreLawn @Reddit: "Absolutely nothing getting past Timber today. Love it."

💪60'-65': Haaland is taken off after being totally shut down by Gabriel and Saliba. Great defensive work from the duo so far.

NegativeHeli @Reddit: "I swear Ramsdale touched the ball more than Haaland."

😐55'-60': Martinelli has been poor today. Arsenal get a free-kick after Saka is barged down by Dias, but the winger's delivery is way wide.

Eagledilla @Reddit: "Why the hell is Gabi taking these."

👏50'-55': Ramsdale is forced into making his first save from a John Stones header. Odegaard goes down on the pitch in pain, but it appears that he'll be fine.

Kovacs171 @Reddit: "Look at Rodri just leaping backwards into people. Fuck that guy man."

🔥46'-50': Odegaard is playing with utmost swagger today. He receives the ball in his half and brilliantly fakes his way pass Kovacic before Havertz loses the ball.

BlurstofTimes11 @Reddit: "Odegaard already in mid season filthiness."

46': The second half is underway. City are the ones attacking from the right to left now.

Jentso @Reddit: "Let's see what Pep does. City usually makes some adjustment at half time that makes us crumble."

✍️HALF TIME PLAYER RATINGS

Impressive: Timber - 7.5, Odegaard - 7, Partey - 7, Saliba - 7, White - 7

Underwhelming: Martinelli - 4.5

Others: Ramsdale - 6, Gabriel - 6.5, Rice - 6, Saka - 6.5, Havertz - 6

👀HALF TIME SUMMARY

The Gunners started the first half slowly, allowing City all the possession in the world for the first 10-15 minutes. However, they got more into the game as it went on and troubled the Cityzens with their pressing. They didn't allow Pep's side create any genuine chances or really put Ramsdale to work. Kai Havertz got two huge chances to score after some innovative build-up play, but saw both his attempts saved really well. Arsenal have dealt well with the PL champions' threat so far, but need to be more ruthless to win the game in the second half.

💪45'-45+3': Saliba does some good defensive work to deny City a chance in the last bit of the half. Arsenal will be frustrated not to be ahead despite the big chances, but have definitely created the more dangerous opportunities in the first half.

40'-45': City cause Arsenal problems in the last minutes of the half. Rodri finds Ramsdale off his goal line and tries to chip over him, but his efforts hits the upper netting. Pep Guardiola's side creates another through the right but that is defended well.

Oroborus @Reddit: "Ramsdale never seems to know how to position himself. Always seems to be stumbling and falling on crosses and such."

😖36'-40': Another big chance for Havertz! Odegaard plays Saka into the box and the winger manages to cut-back a great pass to Kai, whose effort is brilliantly saved by Ortega.

Proper-Exam1746 @Reddit: "Nice football.. this is where we need a clean finisher."

👀30'-36': Saka manages to get into the box and past Akanji, but his shot goes wide of the goal.

LocostarX @Reddit: "We're playing better now we need to keep it up."

😐25'-30': Havertz is the latest Arsenal player to be booked for a foul. Meanwhile, zero bookings for City.

Cashelz @Reddit: "Bernardo need like 5 more fouls before he gets a yellow."

😱20'-25': BIG CHANCE FOR ARSENAL! White brilliantly brings the ball into the box before playing it to Havertz in the box. He manages to get a shot away that is saved and Martinelli's rebound attempt is also blocked.

Notverycoolthanks @Reddit: "Harvertz providing a target man option is a refreshing change."

😡15-20': Rodri cynically brings down Havertz with a tactical foul that has Mikal Arteta livid. The Arsenal manager gets booked for asking the referee to book the City midfielder.

Fabrizio@Twitter: "Such a ridiculous yellow."

👀10'-15': City go close to scoring as Rodri hits a dangerous long-distance attempt that deflects off Rice and is just wide of the goal.

Un-trollable @Reddit: "Need to get past this mental block against city and stop paying them too much respect."

😓5'-10': Partey is booked early on for dissent as he kicks the ball out after a cheap foul.

Paul @Twitter: "Absolutely ridiculous booking when they’ve been warned they’ll be booked for it. Saw 2 get booked for it in championship Friday night as well. Idiotic."

CityXtra @Twitter: "[10'] #ManCity have had 85% possession so far vs Arsenal. 0-0."

😐1'-5': City dominating the early possession, but have been kept mostly on their own half in the first minute. Akanji makes a nice run through the left and sends in a cross that is cleared.

AFCStuff @Twitter: "Reminder: There is no extra-time in the Community Shield this afternoon, the match will head straight to penalties if level after 90 minute."

🔥KICKOFF! Arsenal get the game started and will be attacking from the right to left in the first half.
