Arteta opens up on how his playing career helps him in management

Mikel Arteta has gone into detail to discuss his approach to man management.

"It is about helping them," Arteta told Sky Sports. "Helping them to become better players and win football matches.

"When I was a player, the thing that I found most difficult to manage was when it was the day before a game and I was not clear what I was going to find.

"From my side, I have to try to provide them with the pictures of what is going to happen, how we are going to resolve it to provide some security, because I believe that the more secure they are when they run onto the field then the better they are going to perform."

The Spaniard had a successful playing career. Apart from 150 appearances and captaincy at Arsene Wenger's Arsenal, he also had successful spells at Everton, PSG, Rangers and Real Sociedad. In case you forgot how good Mikel was in his prime, there are some interesting 2012-13 stats to show you exactly that.

And this has brought him quick success, with 2 trophies in his first year of management.

Arsenal players are queuing to praise the manager for his determination and work on the mental side of the game. Here is one quote from Maitland-Niles.

"That’s what we’ve been working on since lockdown, having a positive attitude, always wanting to win games even when we do go down, and playing our football no matter what happens," the versatile midfielder said after winning the FA Cup.

While Eddie Nketiah hailed the Spaniard's meticulousness and attention to detail when preparing his footballers.

"He’s got a bit of everything, he’s tough when he needs to be but can also put an arm around you and be supportive as well," said the striker.

"For a young player, he’s great because he’s very specific and detailed in his coaching. He’ll take that extra time out to go one-on-one to go into depth and detail."

Arteta's approach clearly works as he has lifted the spirits not only at London Colney, but also in the global Arsenal fans community as the Gunners faitfhul surprisingly found themselves among the most optimistic fanbases in the Premier League, according to a recent survey.
