Real Madrid planning to extend Toni Kroos and Luka Modric contract (reliability: 5 stars)

Real Madrid are now planning to extend the contract of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, according to the highly reliable Mario Cortegana of The Athletic.

Conflicting reports in Spain claimed that Madrid have no plan to keep Modric beyond this season. But with the veteran agreeing to drastically lower his salary to stay, the club's stance might've changed.

Kroos is the regular starter between the iconic duo with the German starting 31 of his 46 matches this season. He's also registered 9 assists. Thus, it's the 34-year-old who has been tipped to stay.

“It is difficult to know what will happen to each one [Kroos and Modric]. I think that tomorrow — hopefully not — but it will be the turn of some of my team-mates to experience their last Champions League game at the Bernabeu,” Dani Carvajal said before the semi-final second leg against Bayern.

Carvajal's words all but confirm there will be departures in the summers. If not Kroos and Modric, then Nacho or Joselu will leave.
