Kylian Mbappe has told people closest to him that he is attracted to playing the centre-forward position at Real Madrid next season, Diario AS has learned.
Mbappe believes he would score more goals playing as a number 9 and this would help him become the top scorer in the Champions League and La Liga. The Frenchman sees that as a fast route to winning the Ballon d'Or someday.
Mbappe's impending arrival in Madrid has raised questions about where he would play as the Frenchman usually features on the left-wing for club and country. At Real Madrid, Vinicius owns that position with Rodrygo allowed to borrow it sometimes.
But unlike Vini and Rodrygo, Mbappe has played many games as a centre-forward and could make that position his birthright just like Karim Benzema did for many years at Real Madrid.
Real Madrid could face Mbappe's PSG in the Champions League final in June — that's if both clubs overcome Bayern and Dortmund respectively in the semi-final. Perhaps Mbappe could audition in that number 9 position as he did against Barca in the quarter-final.
