Barcelona fans show NEW angle of Lamine Yamal's alleged goal in Clasico — why it proves nothing

The recent Clasico caused not just excitement but also controversy. As the score was 1-1 in the first half, Lamine Yamal flicked the ball goal-wise from a corner kick, only to see Andriy Lunin make a desperate dash to clear it off the line.

In the absence of the goal-line technology and conclusive camera angles, the referee, Cesar Soto Grado, deemed the ball had not crossed the line.

However, desperate FC Barcelona fans really want to prove the goal should have stood. One angle 'confirms' their vision, so many of them claim.

The problem for Barca fans is that this angle proves nothing.

The only way to confirm a decision like that is to have a top-down view. Otherwise, one is prone to ignore parallax. Parallax is a difference in the apparent position of an object viewed through two different angles. In simpler words, what seems like a goal from one angle may not seem so from another angle.

The World Cup 2022 in Qatar provided one such example when Japan beat Spain 2-1. The ball seemed well out of play when Kaoru Mitoma reached it and sent it across the penalty area for Ao Tanaka to score the winner.

However, another angle from FIFA's official footage showed the ball was still marginally in play, and the goal was legit.

Regardless, Barcelona still pulled ahead in the second half but only managed to hold on to the lead before Lucas Vazquez equalised, and then Jude Bellingham celebrated the winner with a dance.
