'I don't like to talk about referees but': Xavi justifies Barca's 4-1 loss to PSG by citing ref 'mistakes'

Barcelona were thrashed 4-1 at home by PSG on Tuesday in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

It was a humiliating defeat but rather than inwards, Barca coach heaped the blame on the referee who sent off Barca defender Araujo for stopping a goalscoring opportunity before sending off Xavi for throwing tantrums on the sideline.

"We are annoyed," Xavi said. "The red card marked the tie. We were well organised 11 vs. 11. It completely changed everything. For me, it's too much to send [Araújo] off there," Xavi said.

"The referee was really bad. I told him, he was a disaster. He killed the tie. I don't like speaking about referees but it has to be said. I don't understand it.

"It's not good going down to 10 players and from that point on it's another game. For as much as we speak [about the match], the red card marks everything.

“I just told the referee that he’s been a disaster. It’s the reality,” the Barca boss added

It's not like Barca haven't had many dubious decisions go their way in the Champions League before. PSG were simply superior on the night and deserved to go through.
