"Real Madrid interest [in Alphonso Davies] is well documented, but the last I heard, Bayern’s new contract proposal was superior, so unless that has changed or does subsequently, the expectation is that Davies will renew," The Athletic's David Ornstein says.
What this means is that Real Madrid will ultimately miss out on signing Davies considering they were expecting to get him in the summer when he have just a year left on his contract.
Real Madrid did not plan to place Davies on a high salary which is where Bayern might've managed to convince him.
Although the Canadian fullback is naturally a left-back, Real Madrid were after him because of his versatility. Davies can play right-back and even as a winger comfortably.
If Real Madrid can't sign Davies in the end, they will likely extend the contract of Lucas Vazquez while the search for a fullback to replace Dani Carvajal continues.
