Madrid start Kroos 'campaign' — explained

Real Madrid want to keep Toni Kroos beyond the end of this season when his current deal expires. The Whites have embarked on a 'convince Kroos campaign', Marca report.

The club has no doubts that the 33-year-old will have a lot to offer next season, considering his performances this year. In 18 La Liga appearances, the midfielder has scored once and provided six assists.

However, when Madrid tell Kroos that his form warrants a new deal and a longer stay at the club, he responds that it's precisely why it's the perfect time to leave.

The German does not want to leave when he's reduced to the role of a bench-warmer; he wants to retire while still being an important player. So the Whites will now try to convince him to reconsider his ideas.

Just like last year, Kroos will make a decision later in the season — in April or May. Until then, Madrid's plans will hang in balance.
