Modric ready to accept lesser role as he dreams of retiring at Real Madrid (reliability: 5 stars)

With his contract expiring at the end of the season, Real Madrid is willing to accept a "lesser role" at Real Madrid in order to sign an extension, Relevo's Jorge Picon reports. The midfielder's dream is to retire at Santiago Bernabeu but wants to be somewhat important if he stays.

The club, however, has certain doubts about offering him a new deal.

Modric has played a total of 3,445 minutes for club and country this season and 30% of them was for Croatia. The Merengues believe that Luka's heavy involvement with the national team is hurting his performance at Madrid but the player disagrees.

The 37-year-old has no plans to retire from Croatia at least until after the Nations League finals this summer and he also considers playing at the 2024 Euros if his team qualifies.

In any case, Real Madrid will make a decision in the coming weeks. The veteran has received a generous offer from Saudi Arabia but his future is still up in the air.
