Florentino Perez's call reportedly made Barca give up on Messi: explained

Joan Laporta initially planned to agree on Javier Tebas' €2.7bn deal with La Liga, Barcelona receiving €270m.

However, as explained by ABC, it was Florentino Perez who contacted Barca's CEO Ferran Reverter and advised both him and Laporta not to agree on it.

Later on, Reverter convinced Laporta to reject Tebas' plan and this made Barca give up on Leo Messi's contract extension.

As a reminder, if Barcelona had said their yes to La Liga's CVC deal, they would reportedly have to leave the European Super League project. Although most founding clubs have already done that, rumour has it they could be fined an immense fee as they legally remain part of the project.

Agreeing on the CVC deal, in turn, would let Barcelona register their new signings, including Messi, but could cause huge financial trouble in the long term.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, reportedly plan to sue both La Liga and the CVC company for misappropriation of funds and assets (illegal use of the funds of another person for one's own use or other unauthorized purposes).

Rumour has it Messi's Barcelona exit is key to Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe signing as PSG will be forced to sell one of their key players following the Argentine's arrival.
