Will Shaw, Maguire and Varane be available for FA Cup final? Answered

Erik ten Hag has delivered the definitive update on the fitness status of four Man United defenders before the FA Cup final.

He gave a pessimistic update on Luke Shaw’s ability to regain fitness before the Man City clash, saying: “Luke is more complicated. In this moment, let's say it's a less chance that he will make it. But there is still a very small, reduced chance. He had a setback, now we have to find out how far [from a return] he is.”

However, Ten Hag had a more glowing update on Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof. He added: “We have seen yesterday Licha Martinez [is back], he had a good session now as well. There were also others on the pitch like Rapha Varane, Victor Lindelof, they returned on the pitch.

“We have to see how far [off a return] they are on Sunday. I think Harry Maguire, I think it's a fair chance that he will be available. We plan [for] him.”

It looks like Man United should have all their centre-backs available for the game against Man City. Diogo Dalot might have to keep playing as a left-back due to Shaw’s absence.

The Dutchman, however, couldn’t give any update on the situation of Anthony Martial or Mason Mount. Martial has not played any game for Man United in 2024 and is going to leave in July. Mount picked up an injury after the 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace.
