Ten Hag: 'Man United of 2004/05 didn't play great football, they took time'

Erik ten Hag has made yet another bizarre claim that probably won't go down well with fans.

The Manchester United boss felt it's unfair to compare his young squad to formidable teams of the past.

Defending his squad after yet another 1-1 draw, this time to Burnley, Ten Hag told reporters: "[Man United team of] 2004/05 they didn't play that great football, they were building. It takes time.

"Even players who were in that team forget they needed time to progress."

Amid the growing criticism from former players, Ten Hag appears to be irked at those questioning his progress.

For context, Man United finished third in 2004/05 behind Arsenal (second) and winners Chelsea.

They ended that season trophyless but still managed to play consistently enough to bag a place in Europe the following year.

In the current scenario, the Red Devils are languishing in sixth place and may slip even lower if they keep dropping points.
