Andre Onana was one of the heroes of the penalty shootout, saving a key penalty to help Man United defeat Coventry City 3-3 (4-2) in the FA Cup semi-final.
However, an interesting thing happened with the Cameroonian goalkeeper towards the end of the game.
Initially, in the 85th minute, Onana was shown a yellow card for time-wasting and trying to run the game down for Man United.
That didn't really work and the goalkeeper had to face off in his first penalty shootout for the Red Devils instead. Onana got shown a second yellow card here, but was not sent off for it.
The reasoning for this is simple: yellow cards do not carry over to penalty shootouts or count after that. A game of football is deemed to be completed after 120 minutes - with penalties being a mere tie-breaker.
So even though Onana got his second booking, it was his first in the penalty shoot-out and he was allowed to play on. The only way he would've been sent off is if he had received another yellow in the shootout and his third in the whole game.
Incidentally, this EXACT thing happened to Emiliano Martinez in Aston Villa's win over Lille in the Europa League quarter-final earlier in the week too!
As a result, Onana will not be suspended for the FA Cup final against Man City and will be in the goal for his side to try and win his first-ever silverware with the Red Devils.
