Man United have already played with '25 different defensive combinations' this season

According to the MEN, Manchester United are set to deploy their 26th different back-four combination against Liverpool on Sunday.

Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane are doubtful to play after getting injured in the 4-3 defeat to Chelsea mid-week.

The likes of Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez are all yet to recover from their long-term injuries.

So far, the MEN notes Man United have used 25 different defensive combinations in a season plagued by injuries.

From Willy Kambwala to Sofyan Amrabat, players have desperately tried to fill the roles held by defenders when called to action.

Having your best defenders unavailable means the rest have to do more than their fair share of work tracking back. That is one of the biggest reasons behind Man United conceding goals like happy hour.

The MEN further adds that not appointing an external fitness team and alleged intense training methods have also contributed to burnout.

If Varane and Evans are ruled out this weekend, the Red Devils will hit 55 different counts of injuries in 2023/24.
