James Wilcox poised to take over as Man United's technical director - what this means for Dan Ashworth

Manchester United are expected to rope in Southampton’s director of football James Wilcox as part of the restructuring at the upper level.

As per the Daily Mail, the Red Devils are poised to bring in Wilcox as the club’s new technical director – a replacement for Darren Fletcher.

This doesn’t mean that the club have abandoned their attempts to bring in Dan Ashworth from Newcastle United. Man United are still looking to rope him in as their new director of football.

Basically, Ashworth will be just above Wilcox in the pecking order – but the two will be working together in matters of recruitment, player contract extensions and more.

Wilcox has earned his reputation for his work at Manchester City – where he helped court in players like Phil Foden, Cole Palmer and Rico Lewis.

Ineos is intent on making these appointments soon so that the new recruitment team can get working in the summer transfer window.
