'He could've been best in the world': Graeme Souness explains why he's so critical of Paul Pogba

Graeme Souness has been the most vocal critic of Paul Pogba over the years.

The former Liverpool man was notorious for his anti-Pogba rants. He even called out Pogba for stuff when the Frenchman wasn't part of the Manchester United matchday squad.

In the wake of Pogba's ban due to doping, Souness' interview from January has popped up where he discussed his apparent dislike for Pogba.

Quoted by Football Italia, Souness said: "He had the equipment to be the best midfielder in the world.

"I saw a young man that was going through emotions a lot of the time, and that frustrated me.

"With that physique and that technical ability, he just did not have the right attitude to make him a superstar."

Souness also shared a theory on when things started worsening for Pogba, as he concluded: "The worst thing that happened to him was winning a World Cup, because he could turn and say, ‘I am a World Cup winner’.I think at that point, that was him going backwards."

Pogba won the World Cup with France in 2018 but he simply never established himself as a reliable performer at Man United. Yes, he had flashes of brilliance and even chipped in with valuable performances but there was no consistency.

His attitude, as Souness points out, was not the best either which was evident particularly during Jose Mourinho's reign.

He's endured an injury-laden return to Juventus so far and now may not kick a ball professionally for the next four years.
