Speaking about why he isn’t that impressed with the approach that Erik ten Hag takes in Man United’s away games, Paul Scholes told TNT Sport: “They struggled last year in the big games last year.
“I also felt last year that it was naive going to good away grounds and playing with one holding midfielder and the rest being attacking.
“That is the way he (Ten Hag) wants to play, but when you go to big teams in England, you can’t afford to do that.
“He’s really struggled to get the balance right and they come to West Ham today, it’s another big game because you can guarantee they will be super organised.”
Man United did sometimes leave Kobbie Mainoo having to fend for himself while going on the attack against West Ham and the Englishman ultimately ended up making a bad error leading to the second goal.
Ten Hag just can’t seem to crack the code when it comes to big away games in the Premier League, but will hope to get Man United back to winning ways against Aston Villa on Boxing Day.
