- All the teams are placed across four Pots, depending on their UEFA ranking. In simple terms, Pot 1 has the best teams (domestic champions and Europa League winner) and Pot 4 is for the team with the lowest UEFA ranking.
- Each group is split into four teams and can only contain one team from each Pot.
- Teams from the same country cannot face each other in the group stage.
