New European Super League announced, aimed to replace Champions League — explained

 is officially back with a revamped format and a new set of ideas, it was announced on Thursday.

The competition could now contain up to 80 teams in a multi-division format with each side guaranteed to play a minimum of 14 games.

Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus remain the driving force behind the battle to replace the 

, who were one of the founders of the original Super League, are committed to the revamped competition.

The Super League to be launched 'in 2022 or 2023', United among clubs still on board

 concept is far from dying down as the league will actually be launched in either 2022 or 2023, as per Spanish outlet Vozpopuli.

It’s claimed that all 12 clubs to have originally agreed to join it (including 

) are still on board with the project and are only waiting for the European Court of Justice’s approval.

The approval is expected to come in the next few months, after which nobody can stop the league from forming. 

However, it’s claimed that the format of the league will be changed and it will not be a closed league as compared to what was initially proposed.

Man United’s co-owner Joel Glazer insisted a few months ago that 

the club are sorry for agreeing to take part in the Super League

 earlier this year and will not agree to join it in the future.

, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said: "Ed Woodward said he didn't know that it [ESL] was happening.

"But, I don't know. I don't want to accuse him or not. I have not said anything about him to anyone else. I just said he called me and said the reforms [of the Champions League] are good. Maybe he was honest back then.

"That's as much as I know. I spoke with Joel Glazer and he was honest when he said ‘look we made a mistake. We know we have to suffer sanctions and we will never do it again'. I believe him."

Woodward has resigned from his post as Man United's executive vice-chairman after the European Super League fiasco and will be leaving the club this summer.

The 49-year-old has claimed that he had no idea that the controversial project was happening. Moreover, he reportedly told the Man United staff that he had resigned because

It’s sad for football I always laugh at the NBA for that where a team can be doing so badly and will still be able to participate every single year with no need to raise their standards. A super league will be successful eventually but it’s not good for the game . If you’re not a good team you should be relegated you shouldn’t be able to continue making money being mediocre . That In itself will make the premier league look like it’s nothing it’s the American way again . If you’re not careful they’ll have a World Cup of particular nations as well .
