'Never, ever will he get a top six manager's job': Simon Jordan laughs off Southgate-to-Man United suggestions

Earlier this month, former Liverpool man Danny Murphy claimed that Manchester United should've appointed Gareth Southgate instead of Erik ten Hag.

Responding to his talkSPORT colleague, ex-Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan said: "If you are really being honest about it, he's done a decent job with England because he's had more luck than anyone.

"When you say 'give me that X-factor that shows you can win the tournaments', Southgate hasn't got it. He doesn't have an alternative or have the ability to make decisions in a game to change things.

"He manages how he plays. He went on to carve out a very decent career at Palace and Aston Villa and played for England. He wasn't one of those stellar players, but was a safe pair of hands.

"A safe pair of hands doesn’t win you tournaments. I look at and say, you take Mancini out of Italy and you could see him at a top six club. Never, ever will Southgate get a top six manager's job in this country. Never."

There are actually calls for Southgate to leave his England job ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar following the 4–0 Nations League defeat against Hungary.

The Three Lions have now gone a whopping 360 minutes without scoring a goal from open play, failing to win any of their last four games.
