Zero-cost availability and 3 more reasons why signing Hakan Calhanoglu makes real sense

His cost is zero

Calhanoglu's current deal with AC Milan runs until July 2021 which means that he'll be free to discuss his future with other clubs in less than 2 months.

At Milan, Hakan reportedly earns €2.5m per year (just to compare, Juan Mata reportedly makes €9m+ annually at United). Besides, the Turk is said to be craving the United move so it's possible that he won't ask much from the board.

He never stops delivering

Calhanoglu's 19/20 Serie A season was his best league campaign since 13/14 when he was a Hamburg player. Last term, the creative midfielder recorded 9 goals and 9 assists in 35 games, adding 2 goals to this tally in the Italian Cup.

No wonder why United are said to be interested in this lad – he has started this season quite well, managing 4 goals and 3 assists in just 13 apps.

He's a free-kick master

Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford are decent at free-kicks but this man is simply superb as he scores them each year.

One of his most famous goals came during his Bundesliga spell when he converted an indirect free-kick into something really special.

He's a perfect substitute for Bruno

They're basically almost the same players – the only major difference is that Bruno's form is terrific while Calhanoglu is one level below the Portuguese.

In case the game is won and there's still time to play, or, heaven forbid, Bruno picks up an injury, Hakan will be a better choice than Juan Mata to replace him. Especially given that we could get him for free.
