Sky Italia: Manchester United launch £71 million bid for Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly

Manchester United appear to be serious about signing a centre-back to compete with Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly for a place alongside Harry Maguire in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's starting XI.

According to Sky Italia, a tier-one source, the Red Devils have submitted a bid of £71 million to Napoli for defensive stalwart Kalidou Koulibaly. Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested as well but have yet to make an offer.

The 28-year-old Senegal international is said to be looking for an exit at the San Paolo Stadium with Napoli nowhere near challenging for the Serie A title. Gennaro Gattuso's side currently find themselves 24 points behind leaders Juventus in the table after 26 games.

Napoli were prepared to let Koulibaly leave last year but no club was willing to meet their £107 million valuation of the 28-year-old defender.

According to an earlier report from ESPN FC, signing a centre-back is not a priority for Man United and the Red Devils will instead focus their efforts on bringing in a midfielder.
