Man United 'renew interest' in Matthijs de Ligt following Juventus struggles

It appears that Manchester United's search for defensive reinforcements has brought them back to Matthijs de Ligt.

According to both the Daily Mail and ESPN FC, the Red Devils have renewed their interest in the Dutchman following his error-ridden debut campaign for Juventus.

The young centre-back has been in an out of Maurizio Sarri's starting XI all season after his £67 million transfer to Italy, failing to recreate his stellar form for Champions League runner-ups Ajax.

Man Utd are likely to sign a centre-back in the summer with both Chris Smalling and Phil Jones set to leave Old Trafford at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

However, the Red Devils apparently understand that Juventus are unlikely to let De Ligt leave the club after just season but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are still hopeful there will a possibility to restart the talks.

It's worth keeping in mind that the situation is further complicated by the fact that the 20-year-old is represented by notorious super agent Mino Raiola, who has recently claimed that United would 'ruin even Maradona, Pele and Maldini'.
