Marouane Fellaini issues coronavirus statement: 'I will follow the treatment and hope to return to the game as soon as possible'

Former Manchester United man Marouane Fellaini became the first Chinese Super League player to test positive for the novel coronavirus on Sunday.

The Belgian, who currently plays for Shandong Luneng Taishan, has issued a statement confirming the diagnosis and thanking fans for their support.

The 32-year-old wrote on Twitter: "Dear friends, I have been tested for coronavirus and my test result is positive.

"Thanks to the fans, medical staff and the club for their care and attention. I will follow the treatment and hope to return to the game as soon as possible. Please everyone stay safe."

Fellaini made 177 appearances for the Red Devils during his six-year spell at Old Trafford before being deemed surplus to requirements by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in January 2019.
