Who Are the Best Canadian Football Players to Watch Out for at the 2022 World Cup?

Team Canada is finally back to the World Cup after quite a long wait. The last time the team made it to the group stage was in 1986 in Mexico when Diego Maradona lifted the title. It’s fair to say that it was a disappointing entry, with no goals scored, five conceded, and three losses.

In the decades that followed, the World Cup became quite an elusive event for the Canadians. The team was close in 2018, but didn’t manage to get a nod. In the four years that followed, more than a few stars emerged, with a new young core formed in the heart of the team that will finally take Canada to the World Cup.

More importantly, it did it with fashion. Team Canada won the qualifying group instead of bitter rivals USA and Mexico, while producing some of the most magical football moments. In a completely surprising turn of events, some of the best players in North America come from Canada right now, and we should all keep an eye on them at the World Cup.

Many of them may become the North American faces of new sports franchises or World Cup-based slots that will be available in Casumo online casino the moment they go live.

Alphonso Davies

Is it really a surprise to see Davies top this list? He’s the most exciting Canadian prospect and a valued member of the team. He’s proven himself as fast-paced dynamo for Bayern Munich at the age of 21. The left-back/winger position suits him perfectly in Canada. He already has 30 appearances behind his name with 10 goals.

Davies may end up one of the breakout stars at the 2022 World Cup, and once that happens, you can bet the football giants will come knocking on Bayern’s door.

Jonathan David

David has been a real revelation for the Canadian squad. Lille’s deadly hitman has brought that form to the national team, bagging 20 goals in 30 appearances in just a few years. We’re sure many more goals are coming for David and crossing our fingers that he tops the World Cup scoring list.

He’s one of the most consistent performers on the field and an exciting prospect to watch being only 22. David will end up in a much bigger team than Lille for sure, especially if he leads Canada to the knockout stages at the 2022 World Cup.

Jonathan Osorio

Osorio is one of the biggest stars of Canadian football, period. The midfielder maestro has represented Canada 55 times during his career, and he still has a lot left in his legs to help the team. He’s one of the most decorated players in Canadian football and will go down as a legend of the game.

When the World Cup is over, the association should definitely reward his efforts somehow. Osorio could’ve quit years ago, but he worked hard on the field and his patience and effort are finally paying off.

Cyle Larin

Just like David, Larin has been a revelation for Canada’s men’s national soccer team. He may be 27-year olds and was virtually unknown until a short time ago, but the football world will learn more about him at the World Cup.

Larin has made his name as a deadly striker for Besiktas, being one of the most feared strikers in the Turkish league. He’s had a great qualifying session, and will be aiming to replicate his current form at the World Cup. During qualifications, he became Canada’s all-time top goalscorer with 24 goals. David is just 4 goals shy on that record, and that kind of competition can fuel the duo to bag a lot of strikes during the World Cup.
