Why Arne Slot arrival at Liverpool is very special for Virgil van Dijk

This may sound surprising, but there was a time Virgil van Dijk played against future Liverpool manager Arne Slot!

In February 2013, the two faced each other in the Eredivisie clash between Groningen and Zwolle. Van Dijk was Groningen's starting centre-back while Slot came on as an impact sub in the second half.

Groningen won 1-0 as Van Dijk played the full 90 minutes and helped his side keep a clean sheet.

Arne Slot made the most appearances of his career exactly for Zwolle, having scored 52 goals and assisted 30 times in 176 games as a midfielder.

Unlike Van Dijk, Slot never represented the Netherlands at a national level.
