Liverpool plan for Trent, Van Dijk and Salah expiring contracts revealed (reliability: 5 stars)

Now that Richard Hughes is set to formally start working as Liverpool's sporting director, his priority will be to agree new deals for Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

The turmoil at the executive level meant that the club could not enter the negotiations with the three key players well in advance of the final 12 months of their current contracts, which is less than ideal.

According to The Athletic's David Ornstein, Liverpool's preference is to retain all of these players.

However, the club does not want them to become free agents next summer, which means they could try to sell them to generate at least some funds. No negotiations are taking place over that, though.
