Klopp names his 'only regret' with Elliott, backs him for place in England's Euro 2024 squad

Jurgen Klopp has praised the recent efforts of Harvey Elliott and Cody Gakpo to help Liverpool regain their winning momentum.

Speaking ahead of the Aston Villa game, he said: “Great game from both (Gakpo and Elliott). If I regret something a little bit it's that Harvey didn't play more maybe. Really nice he could show it.

“Cody knew for a while he wasn't in his best moment. We had a conversation and it helped him a lot. How can I have an answer for a situation if I don't understand? Maybe it took too long. But after the talk, he stepped really up. Smart, full of confidence, physical strength.”

The gaffer was also asked if Elliott deserves a place in the England squad for Euro 2024, and replied: “If it would help Harvey, what I say, I'd say it. But it would start a conversation in public. If he wants to pick him, he has everything he needs. But I will not be part of that discussion.”

Gakpo and Elliott both played big roles in helping Liverpool pick up the 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, with both players ending the campaign strongly.

Elliott has scored four goals and provided nine assists in 51 appearances for Liverpool this season. Gakpo has 15 goals and provided six assists in as many games.
