Liverpool fans believe Darwin getting sold after Paul Joyce update: 'Edwards and Hughes taking no prisoners'

Paul Joyce has revealed that Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool's recruitment team had a disagreement over the transfer of Darwin Nunez.

Joyce told Give Me Sport: "Nunez was very much a Klopp signing (Liverpool’s recruitment thinktank preferred Christopher Nkunku, then of RB Leipzig, who has spent this season injured at Chelsea) and the manager spoke about how it is his responsibility to provide the player with the confidence to perform."

Darwin has put in a number of inspired performances over his two years at Liverpool, impressing fans with his chaotic energy and work rate. However, he's constantly failed to deliver what the Reds paid the club-record £85m fee for: that is, reliable goalscoring. The Uruguayan has only 11 goals in the Premier League so far this season.

Against Everton, the forward fired blanks again, shooting straight at Pickford from close range in what was Liverpool's arguably best chance of the game.

Some Reds faithful believe that Joyce's update does not come out of nowhere. They believe that it's Michael Edwards sending a signal to interested clubs that Liverpool are open to selling Darwin in the summer, when Klopp leaves the club.

Barry: "This feels significant because I can't recall a player being singled out in this way under Klopp. Can see him going this summer now."

Martyn: "If a decent offer comes in, Edward’s is well known for playing hard ball when it comes to sales."

Liverpo6387: "Yeah, Edwards is pawning off Nunez first thing next season"

EssinemLFC: "Even Joyce is joining in. Feels like the writing is on the wall for Nunez. Edwards and Hughes taking no prisoners..."

Yassir: "Nunez love it was nice knowing you. Edwards & Hughes are going to be ruthless this summer, fifa settings."
