Richard Hughes has been appointed a sporting director at Liverpool. The former midfielder is currently at Bournemouth and will join the Reds at the end of the season.
The Times journalist Paul Joyce reports that the Scotsman wanted to sign several current Liverpool players during his time at Bournemouth.
In particular, he wanted the Cherries to land Andy Robertson, Harvey Elliott and Joe Gomez before Liverpool moved ahead of Bournemouth to sign them.
Hughes also identified Virgil van Dijk and Alisson during their time at Celtic and Roma, respectively. Once again, the Cherries lost transfer battles for these players to Southampton and Liverpool, respectively.
Considering that all five men have proven to be world-class footballers at Anfield, it shows that Hughes has an eye for emerging talent.
