Wataru Endo will be in Qatar with his national team for the Asian Cup, but his thoughts will very much be with the people in Japan.
The country has been hit by an earthquake. As of now, at least 55 people have been confirmed dead.
So, while Endo celebrated Liverpool's win over Newcastle win by saying 'Starting 2024 off with 3 points!!' at the start of his tweet, the rest of it read a lot more sombre.
He tweeted in Japanese: "We were able to win the first match of 2024.
"I saw on the news that there was a big earthquake in Ishikawa Prefecture early in the new year.
"We would like to express our deepest sympathies to those affected by the disaster.
"I think there will still be aftershocks, so please be careful.
"There's only so much I can do at this point, but I hope everyone can return to their normal lives as soon as possible.
"The Japanese national soccer team will be holding the Asian Cup in Qatar, so the entire team will do our best to deliver good news to everyone in Japan!
