Liverpool loanee Ramsay has just 2 appearances for Preston despite being 'fit and available' — manager explains why

Liverpool loanee Calvin Ramsay has made just two appearances for Preston so far this season. The Scot missed several months through knee injury, returned in November but has failed to become an integral part of the squad.

“Ramsay is fit and available. He had Covid, so was a little bit out (for Watford) and the squad was the squad,” Preston manager Ryan Lowe told Lancashire Post when asked why the 20-year-old plays a bit-part role in the team.

“We kept the squad we felt was probably needed and he just didn’t make the squad, along with Greg (Cunningham).

“They’ve just got to make sure they are all ready, Calvin included. None of the seniors were going to play in that (Burnley reserve game).

“It was important we had a debrief of the whole thing. And people who haven’t been playing, their voices and opinions are just as important as the ones’ who have been.

“We felt the meeting and training was more important than that game, yeah.”

The full-back joined Liverpool on a £6.5m move from Aberdeen in the summer of 2022. He sustained an injury shortly after joining the Reds and was restricted to just two first-team appearances in his first season at Anfield.

Ramsay was loaned out to Preston for the 2023/24 season but the loan doesn't seem to be going well.
