'I will not wear the One Love armband': Van Dijk reveals disgruntled stance before France clash

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has stated that he is unhappy with how packed the schedule is for top-level footballers in Europe this season.

Speaking ahead of the Netherlands’ game against France, he said: “In England we think the schedules are too busy. Players are well paid but this should never be to the detriment of our health.

“We have to play more and more matches. As players we should start saying something, contribute to a solution. No, I don’t think that should depend on my salary.

“The Nations League that comes with it, for example, does not go to my salary. We get bonuses, but that is not a guarantee.”

Moreover, Van Dijk also revealed that he will not be wearing the ‘One Love’ armband in the game, saying: “I will not wear the One Love armband tomorrow. We have chosen to wear the 'UEFA Respect' armband.”

The centre-back is attracting some criticism for this because of the ‘One Love’ armband being a pro-LGBTQ symbol and one that promotes LGBTQ as well.
