Speaking to ESPN about his conversations with Luis Suarez on taking the Uruguay no.9 this season, Darwin Nunez said: “I admire him a lot and for me he was a very important piece in the national team and during the World Cup, because he helped me a lot.
“He wanted me to represent 9 well. I asked him for it and he said yes; And if he has to come back, the number 9 is his.”
Suarez has been left out of the Uruguay squad for their upcoming matches later this month, which is why the Liverpool striker has been able to inherit it.
However, Luis appears to have no problem to see the in-form forward don his iconic number and carry it forward for the Uruguay team.
Nunez was also given the no.9 jersey at Liverpool before the start of the season and has represented it pretty well so far, scoring two goals in four matches.
