Liverpool 'impressed' by 18-year-old loanee Chambers — he could be really useful next season

Liverpool have been 'impressed' with the progress of academy defender Luke Chambers while on loan with Kilmarnock, the Liverpool Echo reports.

The 18-year-old made 14 Premiership appearances, assisting once, as his side managed to stay up in their first season back in the Scottish first tier.

One thing that caught the eye of Liverpool's backroom staff was his versatility. Chambers was used in five positions during his spell up north, featuring as a left-back (his natural position), centre-back, left wing-back, defensive midfielder and even as an attacking midfielder.

This versatility could be really helpful to the Reds next season if they decide to give him a chance in the first team. Considering the number of injuries Liverpool players get, having a player who can play almost everywhere is a blessing.

Luke hasn't made an official debut for Liverpool yet, but he played for the first team last summer in friendlies while on tour in South Asia.

Back in January last year, Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders named Chambers as one of the players who 'stood out' in the academy side, alongside Bobby Clark and Stefan Bajcetic, with the latter showing he's a truly world-class talent in the 2022/23 campaign.
