'My dream club? Liverpool': World Cup revelation Josko Gvardiol

"My dream club? That would definitely be Liverpool," Josko Gvardiol told RTL Danas when asked which team he wanted to join when he was ten years old, as quoted by BeIN Sports.

"Since I was little, I watched a lot of their matches with my dad. We covered every season in detail. It is a club that has remained in my heart."

Gvardiol rose to fame with his impressive performances for Croatia at the World Cup. Yet the 20-year-old has been attracting professional attention way before that.

Last summer, Leipzig reportedly rejected Chelsea's £81m bid for the defender. Gvardiol's release clause stands at £112m and it would become active only in 2024.

"Last summer a transfer was close and [Leipzig] simply kept me. I hope to spend these six months with [Leipzig]," Gvardiol said.

"Chelsea did not give up, but it was agreed that we would go for the winter. Winter has come, so we need to see what and how to proceed, but it's okay, there's still plenty of time, so we'll see.

"Nobody presented anything to me. But I'm not in a hurry, we have time, let them arrange the plan and we'll see."

"I'm not in a hurry," Gvardiol added about leaving Leipzig.

"I'm at Leipzig and we still have six months to finish the season and to win something. Then we will look further to the future."

Apart from Chelsea, Real Madrid are said to be interested in signing the 20-year-old. Gvardiol previously flirted with Los Blancos, too.

"Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world. Who knows, maybe one day I'll be able to play there. I'd like it," Gvardiol said in December.
